Chain Gang

Outlaws stealing ownership take the apostrophe.
"the price is absurd, but the books small and thin"
I palmed Heaven & other poems, at nineteen, in Schenectady.

"Poets are criminals in America," Illegitimately
    received–(it’s all empty space
                      endless) to take in…
By taking ownership, outlaws steal the apostrophe.

"The problem of how to make a living plagues me." (and me!)
    13. Remove literary, grammatical and syntactical inhibition
    I pilfered Heaven
              & other poems, at nineteen
    in Schenectady

"with poetry, I took that self to New York City"
    appropriation is the found-
                          ation of tradition
outlaws steal taking ownership by the apostrophe

--thought Jack, too, would applaud from eternity
    my heisting his poems,
parenthetically Without making one false move
                  of action,
I lifted Heaven & other poems, at nineteen in Schenectady

"Poets are criminals in America," I agree.
More than stolen lines are my homage to Ted Berrigan.
Ownership stealing outlaws take the apostrophe,
just as I stole Heaven & other poems, at nineteen in Schenectady.
